National Organizations

Geo-Heat Center
Located at the Oregon Institute of Technology, GHC hosts a wealth of information, including detailed site information in five Western States Geothermal Databases, and a great interactive map of direct use geothermal applications around the country, including greenhouses, aquaculture, district heating and industrial applications. They also have collected a number of case studies of Western geothermal applications, a wide variety of publications and technical papers, consultant and manufacturer directories, back issues of Outside the Loop (a newsletter for heat pump designers and installers), and a Quarterly Bulletin.

Geothermal Heat Pump Owner Information Survival Kit

International Ground Source Heat Pump Association
Located at Oklahoma State University, IGSHPA is a great source for fact sheets, technical information, case studies, and lists of manufacturers and installers. They also sponsor regular trainings and certify installers. Though not free, their information packets and manuals are excellent.

Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium
GHPC has information on technical engineering and incentive programs, design software, case studies, a document archives and list of heat pump manufacturers. You can also sign up to receive their free quarterly Earth Comfort Update newsletter.

National Geothermal Collaborative
A broad-based consortium representing utilities, industry and environmental groups, academia, tribes, state energy offices, and public land managers. Geothermal Education Office
GEO promotes public understanding about geothermal resources and the importance of providing clean sustainable energy while protecting the environment. Many useful educational materials.

Geothermal Energy Association
Though not as thorough as others, this trade association site has useful references and links.

Geothermal Resources Council
GRC encourages development, research, exploration and development, and serves as a public forum for the world geothermal community. They have a good on-line library, including a list of vendors.

Renewable Energy Policy Project
These folks have a very thorough and useful fact sheet on geothermal, and detailed issue brief on the geothermal industry.

Stoel Rives LLP
This Portland-based law firm recently developed a Lava Law guide exploring current legal and policy issues most likely to affect the industry and development of individual geothermal projects. The publication will be updated annually.  For more information, contact Cathie Baker, 503-294-9661.
